BREATH OF EARTH
See the breath of the Earth blow through the jewelled leaves of trees,
And coloured gems of death fall freely down to coat the land,
See the bride of the world entranced, showered with the confetti dance,
Her heart now swelling with the sacred blessing from Manannan’s hand.
Implore that the pounding seas will slow enough to merely lap her shores,
And that every dwelling can withstand the unleashed sweeps of Cailleach’s broom,
Beg that every creature in the wild find a room and stay within the very core.
Know that all the whipping winds will pass and not cause lasting pain,
And all the sweetly lashing rain that comes will only serve to cleanse her more.
This is the fury doom of the passing rite from Autumn into Winter’s haven
When the sleeping maidens of Spring and Summer recline in darkened chamber
Their precious heads cradled gently upon deep pillows of their amber beds,
This is a time when the Mother weeps for the willing daughters who have gone
And mourns the loss of the warrior sons who defend their right of just return,
The stilling nights of barren beauty now under oath to bring back Nature’s rising sun.
