Sorry, to symbolise the veiling of her sight. She is one of my special statues that I have in my home. I used to win art competitions every year and with book tokens I won I bought faery tales and Greek mythology then mythology from every country. I love all of it like you do. Xx
well, I looked up the Koto....of course the sound is gorgeous...
I asked my friend who focuses on depth psychology he told me about the t importance of Irish mythology and its parallels in Greek mythology, the blind harpers. I love greek mythology! as we enjoyed the wine we connected with Phineus, the blind seer who stood out, the blind seer with the gift of foresight...what an irony! By the way, who is the woman with the veil shown in your essay?
The woman in the veil looks after my coal from the first footer every year and the mysterious Roman horn I found in my garden years ago. I needed a painting of Rose Mooney but used this lady with the veil to symbolise
OK...I am sorry Dwina I don't understand... 'The woman in the veil looks after my coal from the first footer...." and how is that related to the Roman horn you found in your garden....I have seen your picture holding a horn! Hopefully you have a sec to explain. I am quite frank when I don't understand...:)
Certain gifts I have or find I put in one special place and she is there symbolically looking after them. Each New Year I burn the old piece of coal on the fire and replace it on the stand with the one brought by the first footer ... old Irish tradition. The horn we blow on New Year’s Eve Jan 1st to bring in the New Year. I also use it at the beginning of Samhain, the ancient Irish New Year 1st November. Does that answer the question? Xx
The first footer is the first one over the doorstep at the start of the New Year. Traditionally it is lucky if the person has dark hair and brings a gift of a piece of coal, a turf, sometimes salt... to ensure that there is warmth and food in the shelter for the next year. In our family, our son usually plays the role and knocks on the front door after midnight to enter the home. After seeing in the New Year with us, he leaves by a back or side door and then knocks on the front door with the gift of one piece of coal on a little Celtic dish. The coal from the year before is burned before midnight and the new coal sits in the dish for the entire year. Those without a fire in their homes can bring salt. Traditions vary in different regions. Xx
